April 25
Lanihau Center Ho‘olaule‘a
Time: 10 am – 2 pm
Location: Lanihau Shopping Center
A new Kona Earth Festival event, the Lanihau Shopping Center Ho‘olaule‘a celebrates Big Island food resources, the ‘aina from which it comes, the farmers who nurture it from the ground up and in the end, the chefs who take those resources and turn them into healthy and delicious dishes for all to enjoy. Ho’olaule’a means “celebration” and this event celebrates the many island fruits and vegetables that will be used to create masterpieces and showcase the chefs creativity in a cooking contest. Local farmers will be a featured part of the day, displaying their fresh produce and educating the public on farming, sustainability, what’s grown here locally and how residents can support them. Celebrate the Earth this year by celebrating, appreciating and learning about our ‘aina. This event runs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. with the following schedule: 10 a.m. to noon – Restaurants decorate their booths and start cooking; noon to 12:15 p.m. – Judges to sample all dishes; 12:15 –1 p.m. - public allowed to sample dishes for free; 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. - Announcement of winner.
